The launch of the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the European Green Deal, which aims to transform the EU into a sustainable economy with zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, are raising awareness of environmentally sustainable business practices. New legislation such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), as well as increasing pressure from customers, suppliers, competitors and other relevant stakeholders, are motivating companies to engage in sustainability initiatives.

TRUMPF SE + Co KG (TRUMPF) is a family-owned company with a strong sense of responsibility. Climate protection in particular has been at the top of TRUMPF's agenda for several years. TRUMPF has developed an ambitious climate strategy to contribute to the 1.5° target of the Paris Climate Agreement and had its emission reduction targets verified by SBTi. In order to fulfil its reporting obligations under EU regulations and to implement and track measures to increase sustainability, TRUMPF requires a large amount of data from various sources. Until the start of this project, evaluations and reports were only possible with a lot of manual effort (using Excel). This process was time-delayed, error-prone, time-consuming and non-transparent in terms of changes, which was the driver for TRUMPF to implement a Proof of Concept (PoC) of Microsoft Sustainability Manager for data management, analysis and reporting.

The adesso approach combined the structure of a phased approach with the flexibility of agile methods.

As part of adesso's core business, the team responsible for the implementation of the PoC combined industry and sustainability expertise with technical knowledge of Microsoft Power Apps and Power BI.

The PoC was implemented within the defined time and budget framework for the Ditzingen site in Germany (TRUMPF headquarters).

As part of this project, adesso implemented a PoC of the Microsoft Sustainability Manager for carbon accounting of Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a PoC of a Power Apps based Energy Manager App for efficient energy management.

With the custom Power Apps based Energy Manager App, TRUMPF can efficiently analyse energy related data to perform energy reviews and monitoring of identified significant energy users to improve energy use and meet ISO 50001 requirements.

adesso has proven to be a competent and motivated supplier and TRUMPF would like to continue the cooperation.

In 2024, adesso will continue to work with TRUMPF as a strategic partner in the rollout of the PoC in all of the company's subsidiaries to enable standardised and consistent data management for Scope 1 and 2 emissions accounting as well as energy management based on Microsoft Sustainability Manager. The functionality of the tool will also be extended to include Scope 3.11 emissions.
