Innovative solutions for the challenges of the manufacturing industry

At a time when technologies are developing rapidly and becoming increasingly networked, manufacturing companies are particularly challenged to develop innovative solutions for a wide range of customer problems. No wonder - the manufacturing industry today is facing a multitude of exciting challenges that are having a significant impact on the sector:

  • Customers demand customised solutions for special applications - at prices that are comparable with series products.
  • The complexity of the portfolio and variant management is constantly increasing - Individualisation often has to be carried out by manual order engineering.
  • There are many isolated digital and analogue solutions as well as redundant data.
  • Process and data consistency in the end-to-end processes is inadequate.
  • Lead time and cost targets can often not be met in many specialised areas.
  • The pressure of requirements on development and design (internal and external) is increasing. Engineer-to-order processes are often bottlenecks in order processing.
  • Constantly increasing time and cost pressure meets the need for planning reliability and economic efficiency.
  • System discontinuities due to weak integration of business software with engineering systems make day-to-day collaboration between departments more difficult.
  • The changeover from traditional working methods to agile methods requires an adaptation of the corporate culture and work processes.

adesso's consulting and development teams know these challenges and support you in meeting them successfully and sustainably.

We ensure the digitalisation and automation of your processes

We know the challenges of sales, development, production and services and meet them by digitalising and automating your end-to-end processes. To do this, we use and integrate existing solutions from SAP, Microsoft and Salesforce (such as Commerce Cloud, Dynamics CRM, Workflow Management, LowCode, Power Apps, SAP BTP or MS Azure), their existing standard and customised software solutions, as well as our own solutions and frameworks from amis – adesso manufacturing industry solutions.

We focus on optimising your processes. We aim to give your engineers the freedom to decide and design without having to worry about manual adjustments and variants. We provide connections and connectivity. Our industry and technology experts support you in the digitalisation and automation of your engineering processes.

The right gearbox solution with just three parameters

Customisable consumer goods have long since arrived in the mainstream. Mass customisation is the name of this megatrend, but it poses major challenges for manufacturing companies in the industry - after all, a component change has an impact on the entire value chain.

Flender, a leading international manufacturer and supplier of gearboxes, clutches and drive systems from Bocholt, set itself the goal of harmonising the challenges of customer requirements and complexity. Together with us, unique gearbox solutions have emerged from this aspiration: Flender One, Flender Evo and the following expansion stages.

We no longer ask about the specifications and properties of the gearbox, but only about the benefits.
Dr Jan Reimann I Project Manager I Flender Group

This is made possible by the automation of business processes based on a holistic enterprise architecture and the FIRE Engine software solution. The architecture was realised by interlinking various solutions from different system environments, from SAP and Salesforce to Siemens Teamcenter and NX, Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS and many other tools. The result: a completely new transmission solution that always fulfils specific requirements precisely - made possible by the automation of end-to-end business processes.

This not only pleases B2B customers, but also the Flender engineers, who save a lot of time in their daily work that they would otherwise have spent on individual configurations and manual adjustments. With Flender One and Flender Evo, they can devote more time to their actual work.

Incidentally, the FIRE Engine (Framework for Intelligent Rule-based Engineering) has developed from a project into a product for other companies that want to benefit from the modular variant configuration and automation solution.

How intelligent product configuration and digitalisation are taking the selection and development of heat exchangers to a new level

Heat exchangers are ubiquitous - they can be found in supermarket freezers and in huge gas turbines in industrial plants. And they always contain sophisticated engineering skills that Kelvion has mastered since the 1920s.

To make it easier for companies to select the right heat exchanger product and speed up internal processes, Kelvion is consistently focusing on digitalisation. One example of this is the Kelvion Select online platform, which customers can use to find and customise suitable heat exchangers with just a few clicks using various parameters.

Another milestone is the latest update, which was developed in collaboration with adesso. The "Ambient Weather" function, which is based on Microsoft Azure, includes the future location of the heat exchanger in the product selection process, as the local climatic conditions are of key importance for the material.

Another example of digitalisation à la Klevion: myAFC (short for Air Fin Cooler). These finned tube coolers are individually customised and correspondingly complex to develop. This is where the adesso FIRE Engine solution comes into play: the myACC configurator for plant engineering system components was developed based on the existing functions of the "Framework for Intelligent Rule-based Engineering" - and has since been expanded to include many functions (e.g. connection to Salesforce and integration of several complex calculation and design software as micro-services). The team also developed a project management system with role and rights management, a progressive web front end and an optimisation engine.
